Warranty Direct -anyone used them? feedback etc?

My car is coming to the end of its manufacturers warranty period of 3 years from new. Anyway, seen the ads for Warranty Direct and thought id give them a call. Turns out they are cheaper than the extended warranty offered by my car makers.
Has anybody used Warranty Direct before? or got any feedback good or bad to report on them.
I'd appreciate any advice before parting with the hard earned cash.

After my BMW manufacturers warranty ran out, I also looked around and came across WD who were charging less for what appeared to be same cover.
I decided to go with Warranty Direct and also paid them extra so that my BMW would be covered for repair by a BMW franchised dealer (which means that the garage agrees the repair with WD, and then you pay the garage).
I've made 3 claims during the year and each time I've received a cheque for considerably less than I've paid out (and was agreed between the BMW main dealer and WD before the repair commenced).
So in answer to your question, NO, I wouldn't waste your money.
I would use the manufacturers warranty.

Having used Warranty Direct before I would probably choose the manufacturer's cover.
Be wary though, some dealers act as brokers for extended warranty firms and what you think is a genuine manufacturer backed warranty may not be.
Edit: The amount WD pay out is based on a sliding scale. The older and/or higher mileage the vehicle the less of a percentage of the repair costs they pay out. It is in their T & C's.

EXTENDED WARRANTY
Avoid Warranty Direct. Their ad promises complete peace of mind for all mechanical problems. I took out a policy on my 2003 Yaris (32,500 miles only) last April. Today I asked my local garage to check the clutch working as the pedal is stffl and raised up higher than the brake pedal. It is difficult for me to drive it as I have mobility problems with my left leg. I was told that the diaphragm may be faulty but all Warranty Direct would offer is to pay for the replacement of the master and/or slave cylinder. Their small print excludes burnt or worn out clutch parts - how can a Toyota clutch get burnt or worn out when driven by a disabled OAP from new, doing less than 4,000 miles per year?
I thought I saw the original ad in a CSMA Club magazine - or perhaps in the Daily Mail motoring section - it had marvellous reviews. Why? - IT IS A RIP-OFF! :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Odd as it feels to be defending WD, they are a warranty company who cover clearly specified things up to a clearly defined amount, they are not providing a "cover everything" maintenance service.0

+1 I tend to agree with you.
Although I have heard some horror stories about them, they simply can't cover everything. It's important for anyone thinking of taking out cover to read the T&C of what they cover, if your not happy with it don't sign.
With relation to the 2003 Yaris, i think that their offer to pay for slave cylinder was pretty good as that sounds like main issue or a simple pedal adjustment. If its a raised clutch pedal doesn't mean its burnt out???
After all if was burnt out you wont be able to drive it.
Most extended warranties aren't great even the manufactures ones.
Simple rule is to read everything over and see whats covered and if you really want piece of mind motoring buy a new car with a proper warranty.

What they don't make clear is that the hoops you have to jump through before they decide whether they will pay out... or not.
In the case I was involved in, a water pump failure on a busy dual carriageway resulted in the engine being completely wrecked. The driver was given no prior warning of the engine's immanent demise. It just seized solid. The cause was determined as the water pump by the RAC and two independent garages. Warranty Direct claim that they will pay not only for the failed component but also for any damage caused by the failure of that component. However, before they would decide on whether or not the claim would be honoured, Warranty Direct insisted that the engine had to be completely dismantled (at the owners expense) so that one of their engineers could inspect it and the cause of seizure confirmed.
If they had declined to pay, the owner was going to be left with a bill for the dismantling as well as the cost of repairs. The owner couldn't afford to take the risk so ended up selling the non running car to the garage.0 -

Doesn't make good reading regards Warranty Direct - totally different from the sales pitch given to me over the phone;)
Sounds as if the small print,, which I have checked, may be not what it seems.
Anyway it looks like I won't be taking them up on the offer.

I have just paid out £558 for a new cluch for my Yaris. The operation is much easier and I don't have to "press the pedal to the metal" now. The garage informed me that the diaphragm was faulty.
When I took out the Warranty Direct I was told that it covered all sorts of mechanical breakdown with the obvious exceptions of wear on the tyres and brake pads. I repeat again, a modern clutch wears out after less than 35,000 miles?!!
In future I will just put aside money to pay for repairs myself - I hate being conned!!!:mad:0 -
Aviod Warranty Direct at all costs.
I had to take these clowns to court as they refused to pay for a head gasket failure.
I used their complaints procedure before going to court and they changed their excuses three times to get out of paying.
It was eventually settled to my satisifaction.
It was an horrendous ordeal. They are a joke outfit.0
