The Baby Show, is it worth going to?

Options
Hi,

Wondering if anyone has been to one of the Baby Show's recently? I'm thinking of going next month but will be about 36 weeks and knackered so there would need to be plenty of really good offers and freebies to make it feel worth our while.

We've already got our pram and decided on our nursery stuff, it's just some small bits we have to left get so bearing this in mind would you recommend it?

Also what freebies/ offers have people got there?

Thanks x

    Hi,

I went to this last year at 32 weeks preg, and there weren't many freebies at all. I think i got a couple of free nappies, and the odd money off voucher.

There are some good discounts if you're thinking of buying any higher priced items there - e.g. birth to potty sets of reusable nappies, pushchairs, cot beds etc... but even then i didn't see any amazing bargains.

Maybe it'll be better this year?

No not many freebies when i went a few years ago i manged to get a couple of bounty packs, DD1 did a hand print card from huggies and I got some samples and I got a small picture of her taken in a little cardboard frame somewhere else. Brought one thing which was from a small handmade seller. everything else I got cheaper away from the show! wasnt wort the trip for me as I went from Norfolk.

  • I went last year before i was pregnant and was just planning my pregnancy. The only freebies i got were books from childrens book company which were lovely. But u Dont get much else. There was a place to sit and have some food which may have had some tasting sessions but i had my kids with me so i never went near it lol.
THere are lots of good offers on the products they are promoting at the stalls tho :D

Our baby is due end of April, and I am sure my wife will equally not be thrilled with the hustle and bustle of a busy show.
I came here to ask the same question really.

Is it worth waiting to get a travel system (like Babystyle Oyster) and other furniture at the show,
OR just buy online with cashback and source cheapest prices online?

I'm leaning towards the second option...

    I wouldn't go whilst pregnant (I physically couldn't anyway!)

The majority of freebies are aimed at people with babies a few months old. We went in May and got loads of Organix baby snack things, some Sainsburys bags with a food pouch and a packet of wipes. Some bags from Fairy/Comfort/Persil with samples in, aphoto of the baby (and entry into the baby show competition) a cloth bag from Stokke, some Heinz biscotti, free baby food at lunch time, plus taster pots from someone doing cooking demonstrations... One tip, if there's 2 of you, walk past seperately to get 2 freebies...

We did buy a few things, Itty Bitty had a nappy sale on that was too good to pass up and we bought some unbelievabowls on special offer... But I probably wouldn't buy big pushchairs/furniture from there... I would prefer to check online and source a good deal that way anyway...

I think it depends what you want out of the day... We won our tickets from an online competition and we went just for a trip out and freebies... If I'd have gone with a specific goal of a good deal on a certain pushchair, I might have come away feeling disapointed...

(Xstyle, I have an oyster if you have any questions :D)
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

i've not been but i'd imagine if your not careful you could easily get sweeped along in wanting to buy things you don't really need. if you have the basics you need and only need a few things, might be better to source them locally or on internet.
  • Thanks everyone, I've decided to give it a miss, sounds like the freebies are similar to those that come in the bounty packs etc which really aren;t worth getting excited about and certainly wouldn't be worth my swollen feet lol x
  • I went to the Birmingham babyshow in May 2005... seems a long time ago now! Managed to get a fab price on a Maclaren xt buggy, tons of freebies, entered loads of competitions and had a lovely day out with my mum. Also went in May 2006 and again entered and won a few competitions (can highly recommend taking pre printed labels), got some pretty baby clothes for my tiny tot and lots of other little goodies and free babyfood etc. I love it and I would be there again if I ever have another baby. It's a lovely mum & daughter/friend day out.
