Morrisons Till receipt

I'm not sure if this is the right part of the forum for this so moderators please feel free to move it if necessary.
My local Morrisons store upgraded it's tills/receipt machines a few months back. With this weeks increase in VAT I decided to check my till receipt more thoroughly than normal. At this point I noticed that the new till receipt no longer shows whether items are rated at 0%vat or the current 20%. Old receipts (prior to the upgrade) showed a letter A (VATable) or D (0% VAT) after the price for each item on the receipt. Now the only details about VAT are given at the end of the receipt in the summaries. To my mind this makes it very difficult for the consumer to make decisions about what shopping choices to make as you can't readily see whether an item is a staple foodstuff or a 'luxury'. I'm pretty certain that there is nothing on the shelf price markers either to indicate whether products are subject to VAT.
Does anyone know if supermarkets have an obligation to inform us of these details?
I have sent an email to Morrisons, and will wait and see what their response is, but is there anyone else I could raise this matter with?

Someone in the store with a computer (i.e. customer services) can probably look up the details on request. But they'd probably get a little annoyed if you asked for every product.0

For domestic purposes (as opposed to VAT returns) you don't really need to know the VAT rate for every single item do you? Really?
Food prices vary due to many reasons - season, crop failure or abundance, increase in price of individual ingredients (such as wheat), transport costs etc.
The receipt format has nothing to do with pricing and is issued to you after your buying decision has been reached.
if you want to know about VAT rates for domestic items then look at the HMRC site.
Be prepared to pay the shelf price or don't buy the item - that's the simple choice isn't it?:hello:0 -
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
