Car insurance and NCD

It's the time of year again for my car insurance renewal. I have mainly changed my car insurance every year, and in the past told the insurance company how many NCD I have: I have never been asked for proof. My last year insurance policy has me down for 60% NCD; I'm not sure for how many years this is for?
If I change again this year (and to make sure I do it right) what do I put down for NCD? I have been driving years without an accident.
Do you have to provide proof? I have kept a few years of different policies that show my NCD, but how do you provide proof if asked to from different companies?

Many thanks.

You need to tell your new insurer how many years NCD you have (not a %)

You get the proof when you get your renewal docs. Most (but not all) insurers require the proof to be provided when you start the policy. All would want to see it should you make a claim!

    Thanks.

I have looked up my previous policies and I have nine of them with different provider. If I have to make a claim how do I go about providing detail; do I sent them all my previous policy numbers or what? I have been with my present provider (Saga) for one year.

    Thanks for any advice.

All you need to do is declare each of your claims/incidents during the period they ask about (usually 3 to 5 years).

You don't need policy numbers etc. (But don't miss any out - insurers have a database with all incidents recorded on them and can find out if you "forget" any claims/incidents/convictions etc)

If you have changed insurer 9 times then you should know the road to take by now!

I only have made one claim, 5 years ago, and that was protected. I have always been honest but can see now that I've been lax in understanding the rules.

    Thanks.

The "protected" element is irrelevant, and depending on how many years you are asked about, you may not now need to declare it.,

However best not to return to any of the insurers you have used since the claim but not declared it to!

I have been looking at my policy (Saga) and I see it say's only 60% NCD, this is I think equivalent to 4 years. I know I have more that this.
When I go somewhere else how many years do I declare? My previous insurer was 9 years or more NCD, that's including the one accident which was protected (5 years ago): before that, it was a clean record for 32 years.

    Thanks
