Best option for recovery to preferred garage

Hi,

My car is currently broken down at home (unrepairable via AA as I have had them out). I would like the car to be transported to my usual garage (which isn't the closest, around 8 miles away), but the AA will only tow to the nearest garage.

I was wondering what my best options are? I am in no rush to get it moved.

So far I have had a quote for towing of around £100 inc VAT. Is this reasonable, or would I be better off getting cover from somebody else and then claiming on that?

Thanks for the help

  • How far is this garage, the £100 quote could be good if it's a 100 miles or a bit on the steep side if 20 miles..why don't you phone your usual garage and ask them, in their interests to look after you as a regular customer, they must have access to a car transporter trailer.

You would be wrong to join another recovery service and get them to move a car already broken down, some might do this (i wouldn't) but i can't see it being any less that a £100 anyway for such cover.

Why not ask the AA if they would shift the car to the further garage if you paid the upgrade to the required level, that might work out cheaper overall and you have the benefit of the increased level for the rest of the year.

Hi, they charged a rate of £55 call out, then 1.20 per mile. I'll give AA another call to see what they say.

    You won't find much cheaper.
