Railway delay repay- RAIL VOUCHERS?
Hi all,
I used to have an annual season ticket (Gold Card). During the snow, all services from my station to London were cancelled so I applied for compensation on the delay repay scheme from Southern.
I've just received a letter from them enclosing rail vouchers. The problem is the rail vouchers are large in value, £36 and a ticket to London off peak is much less than that. I cannot get change from the rail vouchers so I would have to plan multiple trips.
To be honest, I would rather get some cash back, can I write back to them and ask from them? I've tried looking at their passenger charter and their delay repay website but southern are VERY good at hiding things. I had to google delay repay southern to get the correct bit of the website to claim online. It wasn't possible from the southern homepage!

I no longer have an annual ticket, changed jobs so I now drive to work.0 -
I have see on this forum, people that have 'kicked up a stink' with the Train Company and demanded cash rather than vouchers and that Train Company has complied with their request.
Me, I would phone Southern 08451 27 29 20 and explain your problem, ask them if you could send the vouchers back either for cash or if they won't do that then ask them to send it in smaller voucher nominations ie 3x£10, 1x£6.
I've never dealt with Southern customer services so can't commet on how friendly they are, but most other Train Company customer services will try their best to help you.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
The Rail Vouchers I've received in the past have always been custom printed by the TOC, so it should be no problem for them to be issued in smaller denominations. A polite phone call to their customer services should explain the situation.0

The vouchers are the same for any TOC( should be green). And they can be used on any reail journey you wish to take. in the future.
But give them a ring and see what they can do for you. Cant do any harm"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
Thanks, I'll ring Southern tomorrow and see if I can work something out. Just wondering if that's normal practice for delay repay claims0
