Myself and DD went to the shelter and a lovley big cat decided he would like to come and live with us :j:j:j:j:j
DD also proclaimed that she would love him for ever and ever and he can sleep on her bed anytime in the world
He is arriving next week (in school time so will have a quiet house for a few hours first...) hopefully he will have found a good hiding spot before the munchkins get home.
We have got him a bed / food bowl / scratch post and enough food for a month
felix and scienceplan.
My dd is off to pet shop for some toys later with her pocket money
He will need his second jab when we have him (I think i will be paying for that anyone know costs? more £10 or £50?)
Also they have asked for a 'donation' in cash...... how much should i give?
I am sooo excited he really is a lovley big boy (maine coon x)
I will have to post a picture of him - I just dont think i could help myself

I thought i would share in the excitement too. I got my new cat from the shelter yesterday - a wee gorgeous 9 month old black and white girl.
She's been hiding behing the kitchen cupboards since 4pm yesterday - wish she would come out so i can actually see my new pet!
Hope all goes well on Thursday!0 -

Aw stop it! You are both making me broody!
2nd vacc for my cat cost me £28 - but I guess it's down to what sort of vacc you are having done. Have a ring around the local vets to get the best quote - with things like vaccs I think you can go with price rather than a Vet you like and trust.
As for donation, give what you can. Could you maybe make a small monthly direct debit? That way, over a year, you could probably give more than in a one-off donation, helping the rescue to help more cats in the future.
Good luck voodooelephant and icclesuzie xxx
And please put up pics soon xxSome days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

I beg to differ.....Firstly you need to make sure that your chosen vet uses the same vaccine/brand as was used for the first set...in fact the shelter may advise you here.
But....I feel strongly that you should always only go to a vet you like an trust, not choose just on price. The relationship with a vet is about SO much more than just the money. Kittens can sometimes be quite unwell after vaccines and you want to know from the start that you have the back up of your vet just in case. This first appt will 'register' the kitten at the practice and most vets will check the animal over and get to know it at this stage.0 -
Thanks for you advice

I am so excited i just hope he is happy here!!!"Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.":beer:0 -
my biggest bit of advance would be not to try to force him out - mine spent a week under the bed... and according to all my research this is normal

I am soooooooooooooo jealous! I adore the bigger cats and since sons cat took himself back off home - I am missing him something awful! a big Turkish Van who istotally insane - but I loved him!!! that was three weeks ago!
anyways - ring around for price and to ensure they use the same vaccines as the first lot - but on the first visit decide how you feel about that practice! not all vets are the same! I cannot say I have had any bad experiences with vets - but some I felt more comfortable with than others! price is no indication of quality either - our local 'Budget' vets are just as good as some of the pricier ones!
my congratulations on the addition to your family! Maine Coons are one of my favourite cat breeds - have you looked them up on the net? some fascinating facts and stories about them on there!0
