Train Temple Meads to Fort William, help please

Hi, I'm due to go on holiday with friends next month. I need to travel from Bristol Temple Meads to Fort William on 13th Feb after 6 pm for a single journey. Does anyone know of any cheap fare sites? I've tried megatrain but they don't cover the areas. If I can't get it cheapish (I know it's not going to be £2 as it's a long journey) I may have to miss the holiday :(

I always book my train tickets through National Rail or The Trainline, at least with National Rail though there is no booking fee and the tickets are either posted out first class or pick up at station.

    Hope this helps.

You want to LEAVE Bristol after 6pm?

You won't get to Fort William the same day, so you will need a hotel in Crewe (probably), or an uncomfortable night in a waiting room.

Seems to be minimum £87 on the train anyway.

Have you considered flying with Easyjet from Bristol to Inverness, getting the airport link bus into Inverness and then a CityLink coach from Inverness to Fort William?

I reckon that could cost you as little as £30 altogether - and would be A LOT quicker. You would need to fly from Bristol at lunchtime though.

    Good point Withabix,

any search you do for a train P.S may try and take you to london/Crewe for the overnight sleeper because of the time you want to leave.

Easyjet - Bristol to Glasgow Sun 13th Feb @£19.99 +taxes (i assume), hang around Glasgow Airport until the next morning (14th) and get the bus into the (£4.50 stops at Central And Queen St Rail Stations and Buchannon Street bus station). City Link coach to Fort William at 7am @ £5, book it on line for the super saver price. Or head for the 5.30am train from Queen St (change at Westerton) @ £12.10

This is good advice. A bonus is the scenic ride alongside Loch Ness down the Great Glen from Inverness to Fort William.

withabix has the best solution. Flights with easyJet BRS-INV are £21.99 and the Citylink Coach Inverness-Fort William is £6, so under £30 in total (may be a few £ more if you need to take lugage with easyJet and pay on a credit card). However, as alread said you need to leave Bristol Airport at 13:15 on the 13th February.

If you definately can't leave Bristol until after 6pm then you won't get to Fort William until Monday 14th. You can fly to Glasgow from Bristol at 19:15 also for £21.99, but you would then have to stop overnight in Glasgow before going onwards to Fort William the next morning (coach at 7am on the 14th is £6)

The final option if you didn't want to stay overnight in Glasgow would be to fly Bristol to Glasgow at 7am on 14th. This flight is £19, and again a coach to Fort William is £6.

The train cannot touch the flying option on either price or convenience.

You can leave Bristol at 1930 and pick up the sleeper train at Crewe, ariving at FW just before 1000 next day. Not cheap though - but you can save a little by getting an advance ticket to Crewe (£32.50) and paying the sleeper fare from there (starts at just over £100)
  • That's wonderful thank you all so much, very kind xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:j
  • Hi,

can't help with fares, but,,,,,,, looking at the date, 13th Feb, and single journey, makes me think that you are running away to get married on St Valentines Day, s:heartpuls r:heartpulsmantic.

    Good luck.
