I was driving my ford fiesta 5 door petrol 97 model yesterday n all of sudden the clutch went down and isn't coming up! luckily all that just happened at my driveway... can not drive any more as when i start and put it into gear, it gives a kind of sudden jump!
Not sure what the problem is!
I will appreciate any ideas/suggestions!

check under the dashboard area where the clutch pedal is, you should be able to see if the pedal attatches to a cable or a hydraulic master cylinder....work permit granted!0 -
Fiestas of that era have hydraulaic cluthes I believe, so it'll be the Master Cylinder. Arguably an easier job than a cable actually!goldspanners wrote: »if its not the cable type then my guess would be the clutch master cylinder then.0 -
The pre September 1997 (Mk3) Ford Fiesta were cable clutch with a self-adjusting via the clutch-foot-pedal. The pedal engages a ratchet system called the QUADRANT & PAWL and is part of the pedal.
The Post September 1997 (Mk4) were hydaulic.

I was under the impression that all 1997 model Fiestas were Mk4 veriants? I've seen a few P-Reg models on the roads, but I'm sure P-platers didn't stretch in to 1997...The pre September 1997 (Mk3) Ford Fiesta were cable clutch with a self-adjusting via the clutch-foot-pedal. Edit: I got confused on the reg years, it would appear P-plate can be 1997...Although, I would have thought that the Mk3 would have 'run out' on a 1996 'P' as opposed to a 1997, being in mind the Mk 4 was released on a 1995/6 'N' reg.
Glasgowlife, What shape is the Fiesta please? lol.0
