Hi all
Thought I'd up the ratings for Santander as I joined these guys just over a year ago knowing that there may be problems after seeing all the bad reports on them.
I forgot to leave money in for a Direct Debit over xmas and the company went in twice to take it but because funds were'nt available I had a letter from Santander saying that they'll charge me £35 per unpaid item totalling £70.
I was gutted because I've been so careful the last few months, paying bills on time and DMP.
Just phoned them up and they have removed both the charges which were due to go on my account in 2 weeks time.
It's worth a shot for anyone else in same situation.
Success :T

LOL, I agree-its probably because its your first time.
I dont get why these banks can charge us for a transaction that they didnt make for us in the first place.0 -
Santader don't get the low opinions of the rest of us because of the good service to the OP but because when they say they're going to do something, they don't.
Come back to us, OP when they do what they say and give me a chance to apologise to them for my cynicism!0 -
Go on missi1 admit it, your Santanders Chief Executive!

Was in Santander the other day to officially cancel my credit card (which I don't use) and my Flexible Saver account (with £0 balance.)
When I get there, the woman at reception tells me that I can only cancel my credit card over the phone, but when I ask the cashier he says that he can do it (but his computer has crashed - typical- so everything is taking a long time.)
When he is done, I ask him if I will get a final statement for my savings account, so I have a record of how much money I have had in the bank over the year. I haven't updated my passbook since Jan 2008; I've done all my transactions online. I'm a US citizen and I have to know how much money I've had in the account every day of the year for US reporting to the US treasury. He tells me that he has updated my passbook to show all transactions.
I leave and go to put my passbook away; then notice that he hasn't updated it at all. So I go back, wait in the queue again, and have it updated.
While I am there the woman next to me is complaining that £5000 has come out of her account and doesn't know how. The cashier serving her tells here she must have withdrawn the money and forgotten about it. Don't ask me how someone can forget taking out £5000.
THAT is typical Santander.0 -
