average weight of cats

I realise there are so many factors in determining an average weight for a cat. I have two very ordinary...........but adorable......moggies.
The female is 13 and 5.2 kg.
The male is 5 and weighs 6kg.
How does this sound? A bit on the heavy side?

Sounds ok to me but then one of my cats is a beast:
2 years old 7.5 kilos (male)
the other is 2.5 years old and 3.4 kilos (female)

Both were weighed today actually at the vet but they told me heavier cat doesn't have a saggy belly so he wouldn't be classed as overweight - he's just big (when he stands on his back legs he can reach the living room door handle)
I think it's more about how the cat looks tbh - if they look fat around the middle maybe they need more exercise and less food but if they carry their weight well then they are just naturally large.

Apricot's right - it's more to do with how the cat looks than their weight per se.

If you google cat body conditioning chart or something along those lines you'll see diagrams of what a healthy/overweight/obese cats body should look like.

If you can run a finger along their side and feel their ribs and do the same down their back and feel their vertebrae then everything is ok.
  • 3 - 4kg is average for a female cat, 4 - 5kg for a male cat although +- 0.5kg can be normal
  • If you were to go to boot him up the bum, but worry you might lose your foot - he's too fat.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
