Spa Day Etiquette

My younger sister is getting married at the end of March (at quite short notice, she only told us at the beginning of November) and is having a Spa day and meal and overnight stay in a nice hotel for her hen do.

We've hunted around and managed to get quite a good deal as there are a few of us, we've all got children etc so cost was a big factor.

Our deal doesn't include any treatments, and the idea is that if anyone wants anything doing then they can pay for it at the time.

I've never been to a Spa before so don't know what to expect but my other sister and I were wondering if we would be able to take face packs and nail varnishes and do our own while we sit round the pool?

I know it probably seems really tight but with all the other costs associated with weddings we cannot justify spending £40 on a manicure.

What do you think? :)

I'll be honest and say I don't know and all of the following is formed on my opinion and experience

It would be innappropriate and frowned upon if even allowed.
I've never seen anyone use their own facepacks or paint their own nails when I've been around 10 times to several spas.

It's a bit like taking your own sandwich to eat in a restaurant. They provide the facilities and service to do this.

If you don't want to pay that cost maybe look at doing something different.

It would definitely not be allowed sorry.

Lazing around a spa is half the fun anyway, even without any treatments. Does the spa have any scented steam rooms? Those are my absolute favourite!

What you *can* do as a wee 'freebie' treat, is after you've lazed around the pool, go and wash your hair in the shower. Lather on conditioner (usually posh stuff in spas) and then go for a rest in the steam room - the heat will penetrate your hair with the conditioner on and leave it lovely and soft/glossy.

Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.

I agree that this would not be allowed, i am not 100% sure on the actual rules but i do not think you should take your own treatments.

You could possibly have an extra night at home with all your own treatments :)

I cant believe this would be allowed in any decent spa, I'd be quite shocked if I saw anybody doing that. Even if you don't have any treatments it's lovely just relaxing by the pool/hot tub/steam room etc...and all with no kids running around :)
You could always take supplies of face packs etc and have some evening time in your room beautifying each other!

and one reason why it's a no is because of the risk of your nail varnish / face pack getting into the pool!
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • Well I have done this :) but the spa had been unable to accommodate all of the treatments we all wanted so it seemed fair enough to me that we do some of our own in this case (we'd booked out all of their therapists!) In general though I would say no. Though to me the dividing line is the nail painting, I would presume you could use handcream and do some nail shaping etc in the same way you could do this anywhere else.

Nail shaping - no thanks. It gets my goat when people do this on the train or bus and then 'flick' off the shavings into the air. I don't want to breathe that in or have it all over my coat, thanks! Even less so in a spa!

you better believe they do. I had the misfortune to be sitting across from a guy on a train last summer who did exactly this. It was bad enough that he clipped his nails but the fact that it was his toenails freaked me out completely.:eek::eek::eek:
He looked like a backpacker type who was bumming around Europe and abviously doiong his grooming along the way.

I've never moved carraiges so fast in my life. Gross - still makes me go "ewwww" at the very thought!
