A little help please. Who knows how to read a gas meter?

Hi all,
I'm sure that I've been ripped off by Southern for my gas however, I cannot prove this because I don't know what the numbers on the meter mean and also, the people in their call centre are not helping me.
I have a digital prepayment meter and I'm supposed to be on Ebico's Equigas at 3.5 per KWh..
There is a screen on the meter that reads:
Meter Index: 00548.250m3
Is that my meter reading? I'd like to know because I wish to enter it into a price comparison site to see what I could be saving.
And if that is my meter reading, when the comparison sites ask if my usage is:
*Monthly
*Weekly, or
* Annually...
What on EARTH do I select?
Kind regards,
Dreamy

you need to know what it was in the past to compare. I suggest you read it again in a week and then use that figure.

You should be provided with an estimated annual usage as part of your billing - use that data
(If you've not got it for any reason, contact your supplier who will galdly provide it)"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
