Ive seen a VW polo with a 57 plate but it only has 2,321 miles, is it worth it buying a car with a low mileage or should i buy 1 with a higher mileage. What i mean is as its only done 2,321 miles not much has been replaced when its been serviced so would it be worth buying it or not,

thanks

I would buy it (depending on price) as long as it had had its required services. One with 30k on the clock will not have had much replaced beyond tyres and brakes.

I had a 20 year old Renault 5 with a genuine 36k on the clock it was a dream for 3 years then I sold it for twice the price I got it for so low mileage cars can be good.

I'd want to see the full service history as it should have been serviced on a time basis rather than mileage. If a little old lady has owned it for three years and only gone to the shops in it once a week, it may have been neglected despite the low mileage - or it could have been cherished and be worth snapping up!

As long as it has been serviced in accordance with the makers schedule and the price is right, buy it.

Thats the trick though. Ultra low mileage cars tend to sell for a hefty premium. If you then subsequently put 36K on it in three years then it just becomes at best a low mileage car for which a dealer will give you little or no extra.

I recently sold an '05 Fiesta with 12K miles on it for £1000 more than the equivalent average miles car. Come resale time though it wont be worth anywhere near £1000 more.

If it has been serviced in the time schedules as listed in the manual, parts are changed regardless of mileage. So it'll still have had an oil and filter change etc and could actually have had its 3 year, 30,000 mile service or whatever it is in the book.
