Is it possible to revert to XP from Win 7

Hi, I have a friend who I helped out and installed windows 7 on her laptop last year. Since then she has had all sorts of compatibility issues and to be quite honest I dont think the laptop is powerful enough to run it. I still have the old XP disk and serial number but Windows will not allow me to revert. Is there a way…

It appears now that it did need the driver disk (which wasnt supplied ) and the XP was with SP2, thanks for all your help.
