DH and I went to York two year ago on our honeymoon, if you book York dungeon early (google it) you can save money and also most of the ghost walks are cheaper if you pre book (there are a fair few to choose from so decide on your favourite).
One thing you shoud see is York brewery, it's fantastic, try and walk some of the wall! and enjoy the city - it is beautiful!
Make sure you have a drink in the Golden Fleece (most haunted pub in York) and our fave restaurant was Rustique, it is wonderful.
There is also the Viking cantre (can't remember the name...)
I hope you have a fabulous break xLife isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's learning to dance in the rain.0 -

There is a good Ghost walk that starts at the kings head (the pub that always floods).0

The National Railway Museum which is free. There is a charge now to enter the Minster but you can climb to the top (for an extra charge though) and if its a clear day you can see for miles. Also you can walk the walls for free.
Hope you enjoy your weekend.0 -
If you go to the Minster take one of the guided tours (in the admission price) It was very interesting and pointed out things you would never spot.we have love enough to light the streets.0

I would advise getting a Yorkshire Pass each - Go to yorkshirepass .com (Sorry, I can't post links so you'll need to take the space out). You can buy them in advance and pick them up when you get there (when I last got a Yorkshire Pass I managed to find a discount code online to get them even cheaper). I've just noticed the Yorkshire Pass website is doing a code for 15% off the passes anyway.
The Yorkshire Pass will give you free entry into most of the attractions in York and discounts to other attractions and discounts for food etc. I've used these passes on the last couple of times I've been to York and found them really useful.
We made use out of the 2 day passes. You get a little Guide Book and voucher book too, so they are very useful indeed!0 -
I thought the Jorvik Viking Centre was poor, although I understand it's had a spruce up since I last went.
The National Railway Museum is a great place to go if the weather is poor. And you can take a picnic in to save even more money.
One place I did really like was the York Castle Museum. The man without a signature.0 -
In addition to the above, there's an associated museum to Jorvik is Dig! - archaeological stuff. Worth doing if it's in the Pass, as it's quite pricey I think.
There's the Yorkshire Museum in Museum Gardens, it was completely revamped within the last 6 months and is supposed to be great.
There are various bus companies that do all day tours (get on / off all day, it doesn't take all day to go round!). Or there may be boat trips too.
Good place to eat (cafe bistro) is Melton's Too.0
