I bought before HIPs came in, so I don't know what kind of plan you get with that - but I have a leasehold house and there was a plan of boundaries included in my lease, so I just photocopied that and it worked fine.
If you're having to get planning permission for a roof, then they probably will be interested in the angle of the roof and the height - you could probably ask the builder what angle it will be built at, and you should be able to figure out the height from that. As long as you get it drawn in to roughly the right place on the elevations, they should be fine with that - they won't be looking for mm accuracy.
And it definitely sounds like the kind of job where full plans would be overkill for building regs - although I've not got any experience of how they would deal with an adaptation to a pre-existing extension and whether they are going to have any concerns about ensuring that would meet modern regs.0 -
You should only draw up your own plans if you are having a conservatory, small flat roof extension built. Anything more complex should be done by an architect.0

I drew up the plans for my self build house on the back of an Admiralty chart. Copied a lot of the specification from various books. You don't have to specify every single brick, just the main items like ceiling height and stair design and footings and drain runs. Got a structural engineer to specify the RSJ's for £50 and it all got approved without any problems. Mind you, this was 30 years ago. I expect that there has been an infestation of "job's worth's" since then.I can afford anything that I want.

Got my plans drawn up - ground floor ext only for £450 by architect recommended to me by surveyor. Well impressed! and I'm in the South East and its not a box standard extension -has a couple of unique features in it.0
