  • the egr valve take a percentage of the exhaust gases and sticks it back through in an attempt to reburn any fuel vapour that didnt get burnt the first time it also cools the intake gases in the combustion chamber so you get a better explosion


    i took mine of my vauxhall along with all the injection system and fitted some massive carbs so lots of fuel escapes out my exhaust electronics shouldnt be on cars. i take them off and sell them to people with broken ones

    egrs were first installed, like catalytic converters, to improve inefficient engines and prevent them from pumping out excessive hydrocarbons. A bodge instead of having better/lean engine design.
  • The garage has said it is the oxy sensor and cat sensor but they couldnt give me any P codes "as their reader doesnt give them". Hmmmmmmmm

    The EGR valve on a diesel only works at low revs to reduce emmissions. But here in the UK we dont test diesels for emmissions only a smoke test.
    At speed the EGR is fully closed.

    Cooling the inlet and problems with overheating if you block the EGR are mentioned on many forums but Most people find only benefits when they block the EGR on diesels.

    Petrol cars may fail the emmissions test if blocked, Mainly idle tests.

    On the Renault Laguna II, if the EGR is crapped out then there is an extremely high probability that the turbo will blow, sending it's own oil into the inlet and thus the engine rev's itself to destruction.

    By all of the current faults I think you ought to first try an ECU reset. You can do it yourself. I will PM the instructions. Takes 3 minutes. Don't spend hundreds on parts yet and if you remove the EGR dont try to force the needle in the spring. On the Matiz they are not meant to move by hand. As for the Cat, ignore them at the mo. Sounds like someone trying to rip you off (a very well known trick).
