Equifax, Experian & ACR. NO BARCLAYS!!

jeez...couldnt work out which section to put my question in so here it is!! :o

as the title says.....i have just obtained my Equifax, Experian & AnualCreditReport credit records but on none of them do any Barclays accounts show up

i have had a CA with a OD for years and years(15+). i had a Barclaycard until about july when i closed it. at the same time i closed several other card accounts and all those appear on one, two or even all three reports.

so who do Barclays use for credit reference? and is there any reason why they shouldn't be showing on any reports?

i have opened two other current accounts recently and these two are on the reports.

the reason i am a little concerned is that maybe there are other things missing that i just havn't seen, Barclays is a glaring omision that i noticed straight away.

any help appreciated.

A number of the big banks don't actually send details of accounts to the CRAs unless they go bad.

This, for example, was true of my Natwest accounts where my credit card and two C/As never showed (despite some late payments).

However, this has changed and a lot of banks are changing their policies on this.

  • The Big high street banks are paranoid that they will steal each others customers if the details appear on CRA reports - hence they don't pass on details of 'good' customers, but as #2 says in this new era of 'responsible lending' :-> they are starting to change their minds!

thanks for the replies. so i can read into it that if theres no info from a particular organisation on my CR then its for "good" rather than bad reasons?:j

    thanks guys.

p.s i would say to anyone its worth getting your reports, just to see whats held on your record, very interesting. use the free trial offers of the 2 big CRA firms and then get the ACR one aswell as its free online.

can anyone tell me, is it worth paying for your "credit score"? it seems to be offered for around a fiver.

Well that is HBOS's take on the 'views' of their competitors:

Link below for HBOS Competitive Responsibility Report 2004

    http://miranda.hemscott.com/ir/hbos/csr2005/ar.jsp?page=lending

"Despite an existing code of practice which forbids the use of data for predatory marketing, some issuers have raised concerns about this issue if data sharing is increased. HBOS believes that such concerns must be put second to the interests of consumers."

I would have thought that it was evident that someone's Credit Reference File with their address details + full (last 6 years) financial history, would make an excellent marketing tool to target customers?

Please note I said banks 'paranoia' not that I believed it was a significant issue
  • For competitive responsibility read "Corporate Responsibility".

I think this is reasonably in line with my post from above and I'M not the one talking out of my bottom
  • Hmmmmmm ........

I don't know how you can be so categoric regarding "Paranoi yes, reality no.".

I'm not saying it does happen, but is there anything (about from a code of conduct) to stop a banks systems from automatically generating a mailshot selling their Current Account when a customer meeting certain criteria (ascertained from their Credit Report) applies for another financial product that required a credit check (therefore giving the bank legitimate access to the file for other purposes).

Working for a high street bank you can only really specify what happens in your bank, as I pointed out in the quote above HBOS mentions that some of its competitors take that as a threat
  • With the recent Watchdog reports of the 'casual' attitude some Banks have in disposing of their own customers information, it isn't too hard to imagine a situation when information from credit reference departments are not 'disposed of' into the marketing department

I work in Barclays Debt Management (hate it, but it pays bills until I find something better), and they don't send anything to the CRA's until 3-6 months of an acc being bad. However, they do share with all other banks (big high street ones) all data regarding the running of your account, be it good or bad (known as white data).
