    What could happen If I politely told my buyer that I have met my obligations and they would have to pursue it on their own with Royal Mail?

  • They can't follow it up with RM, only you would be able to make the claim.

    Have you got a copy of the signiture? I have had an item as showing delivered on the RM on-line tracking system but when I requested a copy of the signiture they couldn't provide one - they then decided the item must have got lost so I had make a claim for the missing parcel.

    Royal Mail tracking is showing an image of the actual signature.

    I don't mind following it up, but I am not keen to refund before Royal Mail get around to paying out compensation, I am just concerned that the buyer might decide to make a claim against me for non delivery of the item rather than wait for Royal Mail pay toout, can they do that?

    Royal Mail won't refund as they have delivered it, so there is no claim to be made.

    I would suggest that you talk to your buyer and explain that RM insists they have delivered it, and that you suggest they make a formal complaint to RM if this is not in fact the case.

    Yesterday I had a package delivered by RM from an ebay seller that required a signature but the postman did not bother to wait and get me to sign it, he just dumped it on the doorstep and went. I know its not the same as your problem but it just goes to show how lax the post office is getting they don't seem to care nowerdays! :mad:

    The buyers complaint though is with the RM, you are not involved at all. You have done everything reasonable to ensure that your buyer got their package, paypal will agree as you can prove you have a signed delivery note. If the buyer argues that he did not sign, then paypal are unlikely to get involved as you have fulfilled your obligation as per instructions on their site.

    Royal Mail are not my favourite people today so I would strongly urge you to suggest that your buyer kicks up a real stink about this with the RM. My own problem is that for the second year running the RM failed to deliver my Mothers birthday present, you can't believe the trouble I am in! Yes I can eventually get compensated for the loss, but realistically that won't cover the real loss, the cards enclosed from the children, the school photo as well as the gift and other nick nacks, and anyway my mother really can't believe she can lose her present en route two years running.
