Lake District Recommendations

I'm planning a trip the Lakes with my boyfriend next month and having never been before I was wondering if anyone could provide any recommendations for us?
We've seen an offer at The Langdale Hotel & Spa so we're currently looking at staying there on our first night, making use of the facilities and perhaps hiring bikes for the day.
The 2nd day I was thinking of getting out on Lake Windermere (weather permitting). I was looking at staying in Windermere that night though having mapped the distance from the Langdale I see this is only 20 minutes away. We would like to stay in a different location for the 2nd night but would you recommend staying in Windermere or perhaps another location?
If you can recommend any places to visit, both locations and attractions that would be great. We love visiting new places and we are open to any suggestions you may have.
Many Thanks

HI,
Depends on budget obviously. Try browsing the Lake District Tourist web site. Personally we stay in Grasmere, Coniston and Keswick as it is less touristy than Bowness on Windermere and 'Windermere' itself.
Sawley and Hawkshead are also both gorgeous and the inspiration for Beatrix Potter.
Places I have stayed and would recommend are: - Coniston Holly How Youth Hostel, Cote How Farm Grasmere, Abacourt House Keswick, and one I can't remember the name of but is on the Penrith Road in Keswick and owned by Pete and Sharon Garner. ( I have no interest in these properties). During the warmer weather we camp.
I am sure you will fall in love with the Lakes and this will be the first of many visits.Jane 21120 -
Hiya. We went to the lakes for a few days last year. We stayed at angel inn at bowness. Really nice White b & b at the top of town. Easy walk to the town. Breakfast was lovely, we also got a days free pass to the local gym. It rained solidly when we went and used the passes, we used the pool, sauna and steam room.
Hope you have a great time x0
