Some of you may remember my Peugeot 206 from before Xmas, a lorry hit it whilst parked.

I've now got a new panel from eBay. The colour looks pretty much the same, but it has a sport trim on it that I couldn't see in the photo! doh!

Just taken car and panel to a body repair place and they have quoted the following;

£100 - to fit new panel
£160 - to fit and spray new panel and blend in with door and bumper
£15 - to spray a new trim if I want to keep the new panel with trim and add one to the other side.

eBay - new panel has cost £45 delivered
eBay - new trim £35!

So I'm looking at £200 really, does this seem an okay price?

If we say you paid over the odds on ebay it's a bit late now isn't it?

They seem to be charging twice for fitting?

    Or am I missing something?
  • Dont the 206 panels just bolt on / off ? I know the 106 panels do. I fitted a new wing on one last year. If they do, its a simple DIY job to just remove bumper / unbolt old wing and bolt new one on.

What is the "sports trim" on the 206? Cant you just swap the trim with a non sports trim? If the wing is the same colour then why does it need to be repainted?

Id be tempted to sell the wing you got on ebay and buy a correct one. Certainly be a lot lot cheaper than having a bodyshop fit / paint a wing.

I think he means £175 all in from the garage (fit and paint 160 plus 15 for the trim).

There is a massive shortage of wings that fit the GTi model, so it's not so easy to get one. Apart from a patterned part which needs spraying anyway.

£45 for the part was possibly more than you would expect, but the GTi is slightly different to the standard 206, so I had little option. A new one that needs spraying was about £10 cheaper.

The quotes were my options, so I can just get it fitted or if I want it spraying, due to colour maybe not matching then that is £160.

I just rang them and he said to fit the 'new' panel with the trim on, and if I'm happy with the colour then it's just £100, then I can look at getting a trim and they will spray that for £15, new trim and spraying will be £50, so it's the cheaper option. Plus he said when they try to remove the trim they don't know what condition it will be underneath, so could ruin it.

    Hope that makes sense.

take to a few other repairers, get a few quotes rather than one place.

The sports trim is basically an extra section on the wheel arch to make it stand out a bit, the 206CC has it, and apparently the older GTi's, mine is an '04 GTi and doesn't have them, so it'll not match the other side.. haha.. typical!

He said they have to remove part of the headlight, bonnet, wheel and bumper to replace it.. quoted 2.5hrs work. I said that seems pricey, personally I thought it would be an hours work.
