SSE price rises in Jan 2007: EBICo too?
I've been looking to switch from British Gas to EBICo for gas and see they are linked to SSE who will be bumping up their prices as the New Year rings in. EBICo only just recently raised their prices (September 21) so I'm holding off switching since I may not be any better off should the SSE price rise affect them. Anyone know anything more? Cheers

Ebico aren't linked to SSE in the sense of they are a subsidiary of them (I don't think - correct me if I'm wrong anyone!) so will make independent pricing decisions like any other supplier, dependant on the wholesale price of elec or gas in any given area.
I would just go for your cheapest supplier, UNLESS it's coming up as one of the SSE group, then you have the decision of their impending price increase.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
Thanks very much for that
EBICo are working out as the cheapest for me so I'll probably give them a try (first change of gas). Cheers

I would think Ebico have a contract for 'X' amount of months for their pricing. In theory, if they had to renegotiate they would benefit from the lower prices seen lately.

SSE had promised customers they would not to raise prices till the end of 2006 (since the last rise) so are standing by that hence their new year price rise. EBICO were consistently cheaper for most of 2006 but had to raise prices due to the general cost of fuel and as they were not party to the SSE price freeze were able to introduce rises back in September. They still appear very good value and as a non profit making charity seem to be a good choice.
They simply use SSE as the licensed supplier, just like a wholesaler would be to a corner shop.0 -
The Scottish & Southern prices are going up 12.2% for gas.
Am I correct thinking this rise is for the price per kWh and the standing charge will stay the same?0 -
Just to be picky, Ebico is not a charity. It simply does not try to make a profit.
