  • I have been chosen to give away copies of Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes :) So excited!
  • has anyone got any good ideas for what to do to give them out? i would like to do something interesting - and think every copy should go to someone different really.

    pleased to get picked :-)

chose the curious incident - great book.

My cousin got the same book, I'm going to be helping her hand them out possibly in London where I'm assuming it'll be quite easy to shift them. But we were thinking of going to less busy area's, and maybe holding a sign "FREE BOOKS". That should get some attention, or handing a few to people on trains. Just a few in each area though, to space them out.
And since we both read this book at school and loved it, I think parents with children might be a good target in order to encourage their kids to read. :)
There's also this local homeless guy, not sure if he'd even read it but he seems a nice enough chap so may go and ask if he'd be interested in a copy.

You could go to your local hospital & hand them out on different wards. Or distribute them around different charity shops.

I am giving out mine in the hospital- but you have to hand it over to them and they will give it out.

Stormy TBH it's that particular book they have an issue with not the whole concept. The Reluctant Fundamentalist is not a book churches and related areas will accept as being distributed from their building - fiction or not - and as I live near Heathrow - for obvious reasons tube stations are going to be a no no. TBH I am not even sure why they felt this title was suitable for Book Night.

I know what you mean as I was surprised to see that title on the list. I haven't read it myself, but the title of the book might raise a few alarm bells even it the content is benign.

As it's a book that would be likely to generate a lot of discussion it might be worth offering 30 copies (a typical class size) to your local secondary school/Sixth form English department. I have offered my son's secondary school copies of 'The Life of Pi' as I think it would be a great read for this age group and they are delighted to accept, athough there are no issues with the title conotations.
  • Happy to say that I have been chosen from the reserve list so I now have a pretty good chance of getting my copies!
LOVE isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live WITHOUT

I'm actually getting two boxes of books, and no I have no idea how, LOL! I'm getting The Killing Floor by Lee Childs (my first choice) and The Blind Assassin. Like an idiot, I have selected two different pickup points for them as well, should have got them from the same place and then got a cab home with them, ah well, hindsight is a wonderful thing. I plan to give some of mine to our local Day Centre for the elderly, some to friends and neighbours and the remainder to the British Heart Foundation charity shop (a cause close to my heart if you will pardon the pun), I have no idea whether I can get rid of 96 books in one day but I certainly plan to give it a go. Those who are having problems, how about just handing them out in your local town/city centre to passers-by who might be interested in a free read?

  • I will be distributing "Fingersmith" by Sarah Waters which happens to be one of my favourite books ever, so I'm really happy it's one I can recommend to people as I give it out. :)

Still trying to decide who to give the books to though as there are a few options... any ideas to share?
