ESA Payment Schedule

Hi,

I`ve just received a letter to say I will be paid ESA at the assessment rate but it doesn`t say when.

Is it paid in arrears or advance?

My current note runs to March.

Thanks JL.

you will be paid from the date on your sick line, why would they pay you in advance?

Apologies, I didn`t actually mean "would they pay me in advance of the date on my sick note" although my post probably came across like that.

For instance, my current note runs from 29th January to 1st March. Does that mean I will be paid the benefit I am entitled to at the end of that sick period (Eg Feb 28th) , which seems a long time to wait or is there a standard monthly payment date on which most people who claim ESA are paid?

Any advice would be gratefully received.
  • ESA is usually paid every two weeks in arrears. You should get the first back payment of arrears at some point, then every two weeks after that.
For instance, my current note runs from 29th January to 1st March.

Did you mean 29th December to 1st March?

You are paid on the same day each fortnight depending upon the last two numbers of your national insurance number.

eg. if the last two numbers of your ni number are 00-19 you would be paid on a Monday. If it is 20-39 - Tuesday - 40-59 Wed, 60-79 Thurs & 80-99 Fri.

    Hope this helps.

    Well, I never knew that.
I always thought it went on your surname alphabetically.
  • Thanks very much for all the useful advice.

    Two4Tuesday- I did mean 29th December! Doh!

My NI no ends in 53 so I guess Wed will be my payment date.

    Thanks Again,

    JL.
