Sony W70 or Ixus 65

Hi

Hope you can give me your preference. I have been reading all the old threads tonight, and have narrowed down my choice of digital camera to the Sony W70 or Canon Ixus 65. Which one do you guys prefer? I am a basic kind of girl that just wants nice family shots at christmas etc. nothing too technical.

The Sony uses expensive memory sticks while the Canon uses dirt cheap SD cards you might want to take that into consideration

I've always found this site to be fairly good on comparisons :-

    http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html

.. the Sony makes it into the 'best buys' in the 6-10 megapixel category. But they're both good cameras in that sort of price range. So check out the prices via Pricerunner or similar - and let that decide?

But on spec - I'd take the Sony.

I got sandisk 1 gig memory sticks a couple of months ago from bigpockets for around £12, so value ones can be found.

I too am a Sony fan. An important point to compare is "shutter lag", you want the minimum!

Go for the one which feels most comfortable in your hands.

  • I have an ixus 50 and it is really light, quick and user friendly. Takes good pics too.

Not tried a sony but would imagine its pretty good as well.

Another point to note is that the battery life on my ixus 50 is great. Rechargeable and it last forever on each charge!

It's not so good on newer models. In fact it's one of the worst. I think the Ixus 65 can get something like less than 200 photos per charge, where as it's competitors can get nearer or even over 400.

Woah, woah. £282! You haven't done much searching. You can pick it up for £169 on Amazon. £11 for a 1gb SD card and you're talking £180.

They're both incredibly similar in terms of function and quality. As mentioned above the best thing is to go to a shop and see how they feel in your hands, which control/menu system you prefer etc...

Another similar camera worth looking at is the Casio EX Z850. One of my flatmates has one and I'm very impressed by it. So many options, probably one of the best of its type if you want lots of manual functions.

Too true. I picked them both up on Pricerunner at around / just over the £150 mark
