Cookery Courses

This is not so much about where to eat as rather where to learn to cook. I am interested in giving a friend a cookery course as a gift. No special theme just a few days learning some special techniques etc. I don't really know where to start looking - I am aware there are hundreds of events on offer but are there either pitfalls or recommendations that other MSEs can advise on? Where can I go for impartial reviews of courses? Grateful for any advice given. D
