Tax Credits - How long for claim to be processed

I have asked my husband to leave as I feel that our marriage is over, he has (somewhat reluctantly) agreed to this but cannot move out until the end of the month when he gets paid.

I work part-time and will need to claim Tax Credits, do I have to wait until he has actually moved out or can I claim now ready for when he does?

If I can't claim until he has gone then does anyone know how long it would be before I got any money as although I'll have my wages this is not enough for me and the kids to live on.

Thanks.

Well I'm in the same position as you and I called them yesterday about this issue. They stopped our joint claim and processed my single one and apparently now I am entitled to a heck of a lot more (as i only work 25hrs a week at min wage and have a 5 yr old) I did say I still lived with my husband but as we now no longer count ourselves as a couple this was good enough for them. Its more like we're just flatmates atm so thats how they see if for the tax credits (or at least how it was explained to me) so I would phone them, explain the situation and see what you get :)

    Good luck!

P.S. They advised me it will normally take around 4 weeks to process but can take up to 6 weeks (although this is rare - according to them)

I cannot advise on your current circumstances but for a brand new claim put in on the 15th October 2010, I waited until 24th December before receiving payment.

    Hope this helps.
