Cheapest way to go skiing?

Options
Skint ski-addict would love to go skiing again after 10 years deprivation ... must take non-skiing DH and 2 young children as well. What is the absolutely cheapest way to get a ski holiday? I would love to take advantage of EasyJet flights to Geneva available at £23 each way, for example, but have no idea how/where to find accommodation. Youth hostels? House swaps? Camping?

All your best tips would be gratefully received!

  • My son is going to Switzerland at the end of the month for 5 month's skiing - free ski pass, accommodation & travel, plus £50/week spending money - only catch - he has to be a 'chalet maid' over the period. Sorry, probably no use to you, but it makes me wish I was young again!!

    Best of luck anyway.
  • go fully catered chalet in January on a last minute deal (crystal/inghams etc), always plenty of bargains to be had plus you can check where there's good snow a few days before you go/book.
  • bit late perhaps for cheap ej flights to gva - need to book these when they 1st come out - particularly for 1/2 term etc. ideally within an hour for popular flights!

look at other regional airports - lyon, chambery. also consider toulouse / barcelona - good for andorra - soldeu / el tarter et al.

key is get the flights. early. loads and loads of accomdation. google for rental accom - morzinelets.com, homelidays.com,

choose your resort then google for rental accom in that area.

cheap car hire - argus / holiday autos.

example: family of 4 (us), 1/2 term (feb), ej flights (toulouse), accom in pyrenees, 2 bed apt, renault mpv - 240+430+170 = £840. just passes etc to buy

last minute tho - give it a go. early jan is not popular so bagains abound!

    good luck!

ps be careful with the accom - some of it can be really...... cozy. 28m2, sleeps four, hmmm - not uncommon. esp when you've got skis, boots, wet clothes hanging up, gloves drying.....

Don't konw how cheep you think is cheep but i think we have a good deal..

going 13th january to geneva via BMI baby.

staying at catered chalet where all meals, unlimited wine with dinner and ski transport is included.

It's 385 per adult but as we are having the family room with a double and bunk beds they are doing the children for 300.00 each.

    this is the place.

    Ways to do it

    1) Avoid February, Christmas & New Year - cheapest is normally the first week in January after NY

    2) Go to an Eastern European Resort

    3) Book a Self Catering chalet package at the last minute

Have flown to Geneva for independent ski holidays many times now and stayed in a variety of different places.

Off to Samoens which is a nice place to ski. 4 of us going. Booked flights about 6 months ago for £24 return. Have found a room for all four of us with B&B which is £90 per night and the car hire is £25 each. So you can do it really cheap. Are you a driver?

Another good place we have used is https://www.demipiste.com. They were the couple on "no going back" who moved to Chamonix to run their own chalet. We have had short breaks there at £65.00 per night db&B. They have a minibus and will drive you to the slopes everyday. They will also arrange a nanny/childminder. High quality accommodation. About 1hr 15 mins from Geneva airport.

They will probably do you a good deal early January as everywhere is very quiet the second week into Jan until about 2 weeks before the Feb school hols.

Have also stayed in Ibis in Sallanches which has loads of little resorts nearby which the French tend to use and you wont find in the tour operators brochures. Handy to have a bit of french though.

    Hope this is of help
