Could you use some kind of motorised transport to assist a little? Maybe a scooter or similar?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Have you had a check-up from your GP? 51 is rather young to find that you're getting problems with your stamina and breathing.

I'm sorry if this is obviously a non starter but would something like an electric bicycle help you get around more easily and enable you to continue?
Very much a non starter, I go to about 200 houses in a day and some of them are in blocks of flats so I would spend too much time getting on and off then finding somewhere to secure the machine, it just wouldnt be practical.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I have been having tests and treatment for a while but they have not been able to find the cause of my problems.
I have been referred back to a specialist again after my visit to my GP yesterday.

    Sorry, missed that bit.

Would your doctor write a letter saying that you need to leave this job because of your health problems? As you have been in regular work you should be entitled to contributions-based JSA - as long as the JobCentre accepts that you left your job for a good reason and don't enforce sanctions.

That is one avenue I will look at once I have actually found out what is wrong, if the condition is treatable there should be no reason for me not to return to work after/during treatment.

......I asked if I could go part-time or even just reduce my hours slightly but was told a firm no......

I didn't suggest changing your hours (many employers aren't enthusiastic about this) I suggested discussing whether there were other roles in the company which might be less physically stressful and which you could retrain for.

The company reads meters, thats what we do, I am a field agent that reads meters, the only other jobs are in Newcastle on the switchboard.
The company is expanding into meter exchanging but due to colour blindness, I am not suitable for retraining.

On re-reading your original post, it does seem that it's the physical stress that's getting to you. Whilst you would prefer part-time work (I guess that applies to a lot of people), you also seem to realise that it's more difficult to find. Why don't you look for another job? I know you say you'd be able to look for more jobs if you weren't working but believe me, from an employer's point of view, a person who is shown to be capable - and still doing - a job, is a much better bet than someone who has given up work. If you really want to change jobs, you will find the time and as you say you're single, you won't have the distraction of having to do family stuff in the evenings and weekends.

I did mention that in my original post.

I have been looking for another job for a couple of months now and have applied for some but with no response forthcoming, I got professional advice on my CV but as I am not applying for jobs that I am actually qualified for my CV is really only to serve as an employment history rather than as a guide to my suitability for the position that I am applying for.
