dehumidifier advice please....

We are suffering with condensation and damp, and have been advised that a dehumidifier will help. unfortunately I know nothing about them, have just been googling & am getting rather overwhelmed with the range of available products!
Was wondering if anyone who has one could offer an opinion? We are in a 2 bed semi, with lounge, kitchen & conservatory downstairs. The conservatory is open to the house all the time, as it is always in use, but does not share the central heating, there is a convector heater in there on a timer to match the central heating.
During the cold weather I have been drying my washing upstairs on an airer in the bedroom, but this has caused damp and mould in the bedroom. So I need to have the airer downstairs again in the conservatory, but we already get condensation and mould so wet washing wont help. So we have been advised a dehumidifier would help.
Hope that all makes sense, any advice greatly received!

I got Argos' cheapest. I leave the washing in the kitchen over an airer, switch on the dehumidifier and go to bed. In the morning, empty the dehumidifier's tank into the sink.0

We got a dehumidifier from B&Q it was 49.99 for a 12 litre one, you wouldnt believe the amount of water it collected from the air, also you should really have one in the room where you are drying the clothes.0 -
Thank you all for the advice, we have now removed wet washing from the bedroom and drying it downstairs in convervatory, we have bought a dehumidifier from B&Q and it is in the conservatory, and wow what a huge amount of water it is drawing out! No wonder the walls were damp before!!
Great investment!0 -
Glad your dehumidifier is sorting it out, we had a similar problem so I bought one too. Just wondering if anyone has used theirs with an extension lead? The instructions for ours says not to, but we have hardly any sockets at our flat and the dehumidifier has such a short cable on it...£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

Just make sure the cable and fuse on the extension lead can take the power draw from the dehumidifier and it will be fine.0 -

Bought my dehumidifier last week and its collecting approx 1 1/2 litres a day at the moment. Is there any use for the water it collects as at the moment just tipping down the sink but that just seems a waste. I was thinking of maybe using to water plants or something alone those lines.
Any suggestions appreciated.0 -
