  • If I were you I would apply for DLA, COPD is a progressive condition. Get assistance from someone at Citizens ADvice. Also see whether your doctor could sign you off because if you get sick you will find yourself, whether it be now or in the future, at a worse situation.
Never judge a book by it's cover!
I may look well but I am very poorly, I am fed up with being judged because I cannot work. Grrr!!
I am not looking at them, they just aint real!

  • You can only get DLA if you have care and/or mobility needs. You don't say what level of need you have, so nobody can say whether or not you should apply at this stage. If you are classed as unfit for work, you might be able to claim ESA, but I don't know enough about it to comment. You might be able to claim LHA or council tax benefit if you are on a low income.

There are many different stages of COPD and unless you are quite advanced, there's no reason why you couldn't work. if you look after your health (stop smoking, if you do) then there's no reason why the condition should progress with any speed.

I have a friend who got this diagnosis but she wont stop smoking despite having two small kids, she get full DLA and thats more important to her than her kids so we no longer get on but she contacts me all the time (Im deaf so its not like normal comunications, I can refuse to talk to her)
