Orders cancelled due to security reasons

Wasn't sure were was best to post this.
I placed two orders on behalf of my parents last night, one on the Burtons website, one on the DP site.
My OH also ordered a few bits from the Burtons site on the same order. It turned out there were a few items both my dad and OH got, one buying a medium, one buying XL.
My mum ordered three things from DP. One was a pair of trousers which she got in two sizes, planning on taking the ones that didnt fit back.
I got emails from both Burton and DP's half hour ago to say my orders had been cancelled due to security reasons.
Worrying, I rang them straight away.
My orders were both cancelled because I had ordered things in two sizes.:huh:
Has anyone heard of this before?? We do this quite often with Next and Debenhams and this has never been an issue.

I used to work for an online retailer- it used to happen quite a bit and its down to your card cancelling rather then the store itself. Not all stores disclose these details to the card companies so not all orders get cancelled but some do and this is what happens.
Other security reasons could be using your card abroad to buy things online in this country -the IP address and where the card is registered don't match and this can create a worry for the bank.
At the end of the day, your money is the main reason they do this- banks don't tend to take action on smaller fraudulent payments (ask play.com- theres a whole thread on it!) as they don't see it as a threat, but to you and I, losing any money is a big deal and can really mess with things like bills and direct debits and cost you alot of stress and energy, I know its an added hassel and its worth speaking to your bank about as its not down to the online store itself and I'm sure they'd benefit from your ....feedback!0 -
I get what you are saying. I have had orders cancelled in the past because I have ordered on a different card and forgot to change the billing address, or something like that. I understand it when that sort of thing happens, but to cancel an order because I ordered two things in the same size seems bizzare.0
