To accept Paypal payments, you need to set up a Paypal account. You can start with a Personal account, but if you want to be allowed to tick the "I accept Paypal" box in your listings, you need to be willing to accept any Paypal payment, and taking card-funded paypal payments requires a Premier or Business account, which take fees from all incoming payments. If someone tries to pay using a card and you only have a Personal account, you'll get a message asking you to "upgrade" to accept the payment.
If you're only selling low value items, you might be better to stick with a Personal account, otherwise the Paypal fees can work out a ridiculous proportion of the sale price, because there's a flat fee of 20p per transaction as well as 4% of the whole of the payment, including the p&p.

It's all pretty easy to do as stated above. Just go to paypal and click the join button. You'll need a bank account and maybe a debit/credit card. You need to wait while paypal credit your bank account with a few pennies and then tell them what amounts they gave you to verify your account details. They also verify your personal details by post or phone call. Usually takes a week max to set these up then you're sorted.
  • The best way to get the postal prices for a particular item I find is to look at similar items being sold on ebay and use the price used by the majority, usually you will find that it is not far out. Dont forget that the P&P includes packaging aswell and I also allow a small margin for fuel aswell.
