Another thread about Dog fouling

Well firstly, I would just like to say hello to everyone

I've been lurking on here trying to find a few answers for this posting, I hope this is the correct place to post, I would like to know what other people would do in my situation.

My first post is a rant *Shakes fist at sky* so I apologies now!

I live down a long-ish public footpath. My house is an old cottage (which has a very small garden surrounding it with high bushes as a fence and another garden which was once a small holding) and for some strange reason to access my small holding garden (which is fenced/gated off) you have open my front door, open a small gate, cross the public footpath then open then second gate to gain access, very odd, i know. Alot of people use the footpath, in particular, dog walkers.

For the last few months some idiot has been letting their dog foul in front of my gate to get into the garden. I'm bloody fuming! They can quite clearly see that someone needs to use this gate to gain access in and out, so why let their dog foul there?!

I own a very large dog, i always pick up his mess with a shovel! I am at a loss as to what to do, why should i be picking up other dogs mess, when it is on the councils footpath and on my access to my garden/fence. I can't put anything down that would cause dammage to the dog as i live on a public footpath and i'm not entirely convinced by theses gels etc. I do not want a poo bin installed outside my house as there is a dog bin at the end of the lane and a sign at the other. I have started sitting at my window waiting for this incompetent idiots to walk pass, arrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!!

Please can you helpful folks give me any suggestions as what i can do as i am loosing the will to carry on!!!!!!!!

Have you tried putting a had written sign to beg people to pick up? Remind them where the bi is or people will leave the bags....bags of poo are worse than poo IMHO
  • so why let their dog foul there?!

Because they're inconsiderate $&^£$"£s  I have the same problem

And don;t start me on dog owners whose dogs are obviously not under control, which jump up at me and sniff my crotch, saying "he only wants to play ......... won;t hurt you":mad::mad::mad:

I'll move this to the Pet Board, where you'll be more likely to get some answers as to what you can do :)

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

  • Well, I did think about doing that, but as terrible as it may sound, it crossed my mind that by putting a sign up it may encourage people to do let them go there even more so. Perhaps, however, you might be right, I think I will put a metal sign up, one that can't be ripped down.

Thank you, I wasn't too sure where to post this!

It just baffles me, I would never leave my dogs mess laying about and certainly would not leave it on someones path...EVERYDAY!!!

I'd be incline to leave a sign with some bags attached saying - you seem to have forgot a bag for you dog !!!!!! so please take one of these - the bin is....

  • I would go with the sign. If you've got an idea when it happens (am or pm) I must say I'd be tempted to watch and try to catch the culprit, and then give them a piece of my mind.

I'm a dog owner and obviously know loads of other owners. 95% are really, really diligent about picking up poop and quite a few (myself included) will often pick up random poos that belong to other dogs. I also frequently see dog walkers pick up litter.

I have two dogs and always clean up their mess,

I live on a privatley owned estate many bungalows and houses but mainly retired people, We are the only ones on the estate to have a small wall at the end of our garden someone kept letting their dog foul between our driveway and the wall and not cleaning it up. As we run a business from home we have CCTV installed for security reasons, we got so fed up of it I made a sign on the computer saying.....

    ATTENTION

Please clean up your dogs mess, If you fail to clean up your dogs mess you are on camera and we will be reporting it to the local authority.

    Thanks

We laminated it and stuck it to the small bush at the end of the garden. It soon stopped them doing it not had any trouble since.

    Maybe try that route?

I'm sure that you're not. However, I run and walk a lot, and am freqently bothered by dogs wanting to sniff or paw me. Why should I have to accept this?

Of the dogs I see, about 20% will obey their owners' commands, or run at heel. The other 80% are allowed to do as they like, and when this upsets me, the dog owenrs say that I am at fault. I've even been told that I shouldn;t use footpaths if I don;t like dogs jumping at me, and had dogs set on me when it's obvious that I'm uncomfortable.

I wouldn;t allow my children to behave in this way, so why shoudl I have to accept it from dogs?

I have twice reported owners whose dogs were loose outside their houses. I used to ride and they worried and chased my horse. The police were brilliant and told them in no uncertain terms

To the OP. I placed a notice on our verge when we noticed dog poo on a daily basis. It stopped. Do it

That is totally unacceptable...I cannot believe the mentality (or lack of it) of some people!

We never let our dog off his lead, mind you, he has a very long one, however, it also annoys me when we go for a walk on the field, people let their dog come running at full speed towards you and they just stare at you and don't call their dog back! He, nor i like dogs running at full speed and jumping at us.

I did cause an argument once between a couple :o Their spanniel came running and jumping (covered and soaking wet in mud might i add!) towards myself and up me, they must have been 40ft away and just stood there, i think i took the dog by its collar and walked it back over to the owners (quite silly of me thinking back, as i didn't know the temperament of the dog) who in turn did apologies, but i said nothing. Sometimes saying nothing says alot more than getting angry, they then left the field shouting at each other because they couldn't find the lead!

Another thing i forgot to mention, is that the footpath is also used by lower and middle school children for access to school twice a day. Everyone in the village knows this, yet it still keeps happenening.

I think i am either going to go with the sign option or pehaps some spray or natural repeller or something. Does anyone know if any of the repellers work?

It would seem this is a big problem for alot of people, everywhere! :(
