Dell Adapters

I recently bought my daughter a refurbished Dell laptop from ebay. Wish I hadnt bothered but thats beside the point!! The power cable had tape round various parts of it, and the wires became visible around where it plugs in to the laptop. The power now doesnt seem to be getting through to the laptop.
I think I need to get a new one but dont really know what I am looking for, On the base of the laptop it says For Use with Adapter Model PA-6. Just wondered if this is a standard reference or unique to Dell products? Either way could anyone give me some advice on how/where I can get one of these cables.
Many thanks in anticipation

Dell use a few different power adaptors and the designs have changed over the years power output ect so you cant jst buy any adaptor and plug it in.

It eill be in 2 parts unless it is a really old one, the cable that plugs in to the wall with a pin plug on one end and a shamrock plug on the other (proberbly) they can be bought at maplins for alo less than Dell charge just take the abe to maplins and ask for another easy.

The bit that changes the power on the bottom will have a sticker or in may be printed on it with a model number dontact dell with that number and see what they wil charge for a replacement, you can also serch ebay to see if anyone is selling the addaptor on there or search the web to see if anyone is selling them laptopsdirect.co.uk seem reasonabley cheap the battery for my laptop was half the price of everyone else.

if you have any problems post the model number here or PM me and I will have a look round for you.
