Using it as an excuse isnt perhaps morally right, but if the survey is bad and you didnt otherwise have concerns, you would entirely be right to have it change your mind. What would be the point in having it done otherwise?
    2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.

I did just thank you for what you said in the previous two lines. I don't agree with that though :(

OP, previous movement is not a problem at all, at all! All houses do it.
Don't even bother buying looking at period property if you don't want to hear that. And expect those little cracks to start appearing in any house if you stay there long enough.

Just re-read what I posted yesterday and it was a bit harsh. In fact I wouldn't wish it on anyone, I have seen it from both sides both as an EA who has to deal with the devastation vendors feel when a sale falls through and also as a vendor who has had it happen.
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)
    Ignore......check!
  • I really don't think it matters - either for the vendor or the buyer. The vendor will be disappointed whatever the reason for not proceeding.

There is no legal obligation to proceed with a sale until contracts are exchanged and unless the law ever changes, either side can pull out whenever they like for any reason.

What is evident though is that almost EVERYONE seems to want to find an 'honest' reason for not buying a property instead of simply saying they don't like it, in order to save the vendor's 'feelings' and avoid embarrassing themselves.

This makes a complete MOCKERY of the process of agents seeking 'feedback' from buyers after viewings of course - a waste of time in my view because clearly buyers are prone to make up a reason and property is always going to be a matter of opinion. Most buyers probably make up their minds as soon as they walk through the door whether the property is for them. You either like it or not, there may be no particular reason other than a 'feeling'.

Far too much importance I think is put on this question of buyer's comments and explanations for no positive gain - imagine going into a shop and browsing the wares and at the point of going out the door being asked "why did you not want to buy anything...?
