Hi, does anyone know how to set the radio channel presets on a JVC R311 car stereo? I've just fitted this in my car and I'm following the manual but I still can't make it set the channels. More thru luck than judgement I have managed to set a couple so it is working OK but I just can't seem to set anymore than that. Does anyone out there have simple plain english instructions to follow? (not the ones from the manual please!) Thanks.

Not sure about a JVC, but most of them you scan and find a channel, then press and hold the required channel button for a couple of seconds until ( usually )it beeps.

Then repeat for the rest of the channels.
  • my cheap JVC one is as above

scan for channel then hold down number 1 or to or where ever you want it stored

Yep, been holding the relevant button but no beep so doesn't hold the channel - so frustrating! It even pops up with 'preset' on the LED so I hold the relevant button and...nothing happens!

it wont set any channels if the wireing is incorrect and lose memroy power after ignition is swtched off!

check that you have the correct wiring for your car on the stereo's wireing harness.

eg: red to red yellow to yellow (as standard connections on stereo's)

some cars operrate a different wiring setup, e.g yellow to red and red to yellow!

in order to store momory and channels after ignition is on the off postion.

check in the troubleshooting guide for not storing channels in memory. should tell you the wiring procedure.

I was afraid the wiring might be to blame...I did read somewhere that occasionally the red and yellow wires need to be switched - is this easy to do? Just seems strange that I have managed to set a couple of channels that remain set even after restarting the car so maybe its not the wiring?

maybe, or your nopt holding the preset button long enough for it to beep and store it, some stereo's will only preset a few then another precedure needts to be followed in order to store more.

to check the wirering properly, turn car off and ignition key out of ignition lock and reopen after a min, the put key back into ignition if the stereo has reset to out of box state and nothing stored then the two wires in the harness needs to be switched the have male to female spade connectors so easily swapped over

    Figured it...

All it was, was that I shouldn't have been holding the button to set the channel - just had to press it once quickly and hey presto, channel set! Is that the new preset standard? Anyhow, cheers for the advice offered by all.

Sounds like JVC re-inventing the wheel.

    Thanks for the update.:)

JVC use press and hold until the P1 etc number flashes.
