Cat and a 6 months old

I have kept cats most of my life. I'm in a position to support a Cat, and rehome one now, but I now have a 6 month old daughter.

This is the time of year when lots of cats need rehoming

What issues should I be worried about. I'm confident they won't be left alone together at any point (and I want her to grow up knowing and loving the animal).

Is there anything else?

Cheers

  • You've probably considered it, but I see a lot of adverts for kittens on gumtree as a parent has got one and their child has been allergic to it! So it might be worth test running or ... i don't know, borrow a cat to rub on you little one? ;) maybe not that option, but you know what i mean! Half the time it depends on the cat though, most people with allergies are okay with my cat which is odd!

good luck and enjoy the new addition when you get it! :)

Yes, thanks for the suggestion. We took her to my Mum's took check and she wasn't allergic to the cat there.

    So fingers crossed!

I guess the RSPCA visit (or whoever) will help with that.

I babysit a friend's baby..a few months older than your daughter.. who has a cat and he comes to my house where he LOVES the cats. Mine are more tolerant of him than his own which means I have to be with him all the time....one day they might cease to be tolerant.

Now that he's getting about the room a little I'm starting to think where I will put litter trays when he is wanting more than one room to get about. Also I hoover before he comes....you might want to put a little tray in a room where your child will never be on the floor and where you can slip on slippers just to wear in that room.

making sure my cats are never pushed too far and have somewhere quiet to go is working well. They all love having a cuddle on the sofa, the baby's face when the cats snuggle up to him is a true delight.
