I shop around now. I bulk buy things when they are on offer too.
BUT I have noticed that the price in increasing on products (30% sometimes) leading into December.
The VAT increase only added 5p to this weeks shop though! We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
We always shop at Waitrose. The staff are very friendly and actually smile when they see you and if you look slightly lost, they offer to help:T. They are not called Assistants they are Partners! There is always plenty of room to walk around in our store, none of the scrums in Asda, Tesco, Morrison and Sainsbury's.
Most of the everyday products are price matched with Tesco. Some of the items cost more but IMHO it is worth paying it for the service and ambiance:DTo Dare is To Do:beer:0 -
Shopping on a budget is so time consuming these days and I am fortunate in that I am retired and can afford to spend the time shopping around. Generally I shop at Aldi (for the basics) and Sainsbury's for the rest (keeping an eye out for offers etc) then Farmfoods for milk, bread and anything else on offer. In among I keep my store cupboard stocked up courtesy of Home Bargains and Jack Fultons. This week I even managed to stock up courtesy of M & S! They have some really good half price offers on at the moment. (This makes it sound as though I spend my life shopping but not so! I do the main shop in a couple of hours one afternoon a week and the "shopping around for the storecupboard" stuff any other hour or two I have spare!)"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. I also shop between the four big supermarkets, i get a 10% discount with asda but its still works out cheaper to shop about0

i was thinking about the asda nprice check thing, but if i buy bogof at morrions will asda take this into aco!!!! or not when comparing products?
Asda are announcing changes to their price-checker thing. To date it has been such a con that I'd given up on it. For example, if I bought a pack of trimmed leeks they wouldn't compare it with other stores because they didn't have exactly the same pack. Obviously comparing price per kg would have been far too simple:mad: I'll reserve judgement on the changes until I've tried it out.
I am fortunate in that I have time to shop around but it's mainly a weekly shop in Asda with some occasional stocking up in Lidl and Farmstores. It would need to be an exceptionally good non-perishable offer to get me to other stores. I find many offers these days are junk foods.0 -

My best advice is to build up a store cupboard when things are on offer, my freezer is filled with whoopsies and I have enough tins to feed a small armyIt takes ages though to get this up and running so do a bit every month good luck
That's what I do - which I was very glad of during the recent spell of getting snowed in, as we could have coped for months!
We're lucky to have a lot of supermarkets nearby - so I do 'little and often' shopping. In town, I'll check out Home Bargains & Farmfoods, have a wander round Asda on my way back from school, nip round Tesco if I'm nearby etc...0 -
I work from home so going food shopping is a real treat for me! I write a list on Thursday of basic needs but do buy extras if I see a good offer. I always check mysupermarket.com for cat food, flora, coffee and pretty much anything on my list. I will then go to Lidl for veg and fruit, anything which is really good value on offer that week. Then one week I might go to Tesco and stock up on their bargains and Asda the next. I am lucky in that I receive incentive vouchers from work - Capital Bond will be used in Farmfoods or Iceland and Marks and Spencers when those really special offers abound. If you have the patience and the space and the means to buy in bulk then you can save a fortune. I never pay more than £1 for Flora for instance. Why pay £1.38 or more? I now have to eat my way through a chest and upright freezer before the fun can begin again. I have found Tesco and Asda are brilliant for woopsies first thing on a Sunday morning (on my way to the car boot sale!) and the whole experience has become a hobby for me. I used to do it out of necessity but as time has gone on I do it for the buzz!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

This week I went to Aldi for most of our food because there is one close to my workplace. I also went to my local Co-op later in the day for the stuff Aldi doesn't have (like coconut milk) and bagged up some price reduced goodies in the process. Tomorrow, I'll be popping to my local farm shop for two large bottles of milk and possibly some bruised veggies and fruit if they are usable.Keep calm and carry on0

i do my shopping spilt between morrisons and sainsbury's.
we don't have an asda at the mo but one is due to open end 2012 and i'll be shopping there from then.
but i shopped in m&s today and i was really surprised at the deal. loads of half price items.
i never really shop in iceland as i don't buy alot of frozen, but before morrisons had their milk 2 x 4pints for £2 i would buy my milk from iceland .
Tesco i prob go to every couple of months. my mum and nan both do online shops every couple of weeks so if they have a good bargain i can tack it onto their order , which i find easier than going there as i'll then see other things to buy that i don't need,lol.0
