DIY Trade account for Private use

Hi
I was looking arounf for cheap prices to do some DIY in my home. I have seen that some places such as selco, jewsons require you to be a builder with a trade account
I wanted to know looking through various applications foir trade accounts in selco, jewsons, B&Q. Is it easier to fake one, with made up business cards etc?
Also I have seen that if you get trade credit account you can get more discounts than a Trade cash card where you pay straight away at the tills?
I also wanted to know that looking through the credit applications are these easy to get, even by lying so that a homeowner be able to get trade discounts? Even thought they are not Builders!!!
Thanks

Jewsons and Travis Perkins will sell to the public, you don't have to be in the trade to buy from them. May be if you want to open a credit account you do ( I don't know about that ), but there's nothing to stop you buying there.
Also, get rid of the British reserve and haggle ! If you're buying a fair amount of stuff in one go ( e.g several hundred pounds worth ) you may well be able to negotiate a discount if you can speak to the store manager. Nothing lost by asking. I got a quite substantial discount from TP several years ago when I was building a patio - admittedly I was spending a few thousand, but it was a hefty chunk off the total bill.0 -
My mates a builder, and to be honest, the prices he gets from having a "trade" account are the same as joe public gets. Half the time he just goes to places like wickes or screwfix and gets bits.
The only time he gets a bit of a deal is when he bulk orders items and seriously haggles over the prices. Even then he rarely saves fortunes.0 -
You can apply for a travis trade card online and put yourself down as "self build". Selco are more stringet with their checks however their prices arent that much cheaper. What you do get however is quick ,free, delivery. Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0
