Is it really lazy to work the system? :D
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.

Some of you people need to get off of your high horses and realise that this isn't the 70's anymore.
You can't just walk from one job to another.
You blame people for not trying and say they are just not wanting to work.
    BULL!

I've was made redundant last year. I have been on interviews, done more than is ever asked of me to look for work and yet I am still unemployed. I apply for jobs well below what I am used to. I apply for anything that says "training given". I apply for any job I think I stand a chance of getting.

    But you know what?
It's an employers market out there right now. They can pick and choose from HUNDREDS of applicants and choose the highest qualified for a small wage. So don't start judging everyone by your BS standards.
There are those of us who desperately want to work and just aren't getting the breaks.
You are as bad as the job centre employees who judge everyone the same. I go in there with my book bursting with ways I have tried finding work and am treated the same as the guy who barely tried at all.
    Fair? No.

I have just come off a workability course and will be going on to train for my SIA licence. I don't even want to work in security but, you know what? It's a job and it pays. Luckily there are plenty of security jobs in the area. I could have had a job already if the people at the job centre had done their job correctly in the first place and not told me I couldn't get the licence as the scheme had stopped when it hadn't. Is that my fault? I'm guessing you Daily Mail reading bunch will say it is my fault and I should have done the Job Centre employees job for them in finding out they were wrong.
I asked about the course last year and was told it wasn't possible. How many other f*** ups due to the job centre's incapabilities to get a job right have cost people jobs?

I hope that you feel the pinch of the straining job market and are forced to swallow your words in the near future.
You all need a hug dose of reality as, sitting in your ivory towers, you've lost touch with what is happening in the world.

Grow up and stop being so judgemental.

    /Rant at narrow minded idiots.

i totaly agree, always a few self conceited !!! holes on here,

No one is forcing anyone to come here and read the posts within. It's the internet, and everyone has an opinion on the internet.

Calling other "self conceited !!! holes" makes you as bad as them.
  • ...(though it does not excuse rude or patronising behaviour-treat everyone as you would wish to be treated-and that goes for jobseekers as well as jobcentre staff)

I would have a prepared speach ready for future visits.

    Eg:

Them: 'what have you done to look for a job'
You: 'I've been on the Direct Gov website, Fish4Jobs, the local paper, I've handed out 10 CV's and I've tried asking in around 10 shops I've passed'

It might not be 'true', but if you are looking for work and you are happy with your efforts to find a job, then just tell them what they need to hear

Never be 'honest' with the job centre.. they have so many rules etc that you could invariably slip up even though you have done nothing wrong.

    I completely agree.
  • Donna I've PM'd you.
  • Wow, I can completely empathise with the OP, a week ago I had an appointment with my PERSONAL ADVISOR and she (also "fat", miserable looking and middle aged - not to stereotype), after looking at my 10 listed actions (all to do with sending CVs and application forms to employers), asked me how long I had been out of work for (approaching a year), and she flat out repeated VERY LOUDLY to the very crowded Jobcentre, much to my embarrassment.

But that wasn't the end. She then told me flatly that she thought I was lying, and that I hadn't really been applying for these jobs. She then added I must have been working undeclared (i.e. ILLEGALLY!) because there was no way I could have been surviving (I stopped claiming before Xmas, reapplied in the New Year). I asked her how she came to this conclusion and she said "it's just a hunch". I was shocked, asking her how on earth I could give any more proof that I was applying for jobs, and she said that was my responsibility... without adding what I should do?!?

She then made me fill in a form as my case was being taken to "decision makers" higher up to review my claim... meanwhile my only source of income has been put on hold and I've had to resort borrowing from friends!

How do I put in an effective complaint that results in her being punished, because there is no way this is professional behaviour.. she's supposed to be my personal advisor, remember! If I wanted someone to mock my situation I would have asked the Daily Mail readership...

I also wish to change my personal advisor, it seems I'm stuck with her as I have another appointment next week... I need someone who can actually help, not hinder and hurt.
