Costa del Sol at Feb Half Term

We've booked to go to the Costa del Sol at Feb half term. We went at that time 2 years ago and found the weather to be pretty good- plenty of sunshine. We've got three young children.

I'm keen to expand horizons there and would welcome any good tips about places to see or things to do. We are centrally located near Mijas-Costa. Last time we ventured inland to Antequera which was lovely and very authentically Spanish. We also visited Gibraltar, although sadly the cable car was not working that day.

Would welcome advice from those who know that area.

  • I love exploring the Old Town of Marbella. It is really beautiful. Kids love looking at the boats and fast cars down in Puerto Banus too in the evening. If you are lucky, there will be an evening market on in the main square.

With children take a trip to Fuengirola's Biopark (zoo). Its a wonderful half day visit. Also, if you go to Selwo Marina and Benalmadena you can see the dolphins, penguins etc and then walk across to Paloma park where there are rabbits and chickens running around free throughout the park, its really pretty. Then take the cable car from near the Tivoli up the mountain to see the spectacular views and the eagle displays.

If you have a car, you could also go to Selwo Safari near Estepona (you can get a special ticket which covers the cost of the the Safaria park, Selwo marina and the cable car up the mountain).

Another nice trip is the ferry between Benalmadena and Fuengirola, you could do the Biopark and the ferry in the same day.

If you look on Trip Advisor you will find lots of other great ideas and recommendations.

Don't discount Malaga itself; it's a fascinating city as well as somewhere you just fly into.

we stopped in benalmadena and it to be honest its a dump it has no nice sea front aswell

although it does have an alright harbour and park you can walk around
  • The caves at Nerja are are great trip. Probably not as spectacular lighting as some but you are on your own once in so you can look as long as you wish not hurried on as a lot of caves. Well worth a trip and good price
