The real 'Rip Off Britain' centres upon a tacky TV broadcasting organisation that shovels out cheap junk fronted by even cheaper presenters in exchange for compulsory payments from what are known as 'licence payers'.

I have been watching Michael Portillo's program. It and programs like it must go some way to counter PhylPho’s post.
• Yes. It's almost a case of 'come back Dom Littlewood, all is forgiven'. I sensed that the three ageing and fading 'presenters' were vying to see who could dumb-down the gold argument better than the others. [In Jenny Bond's case, it seems that people who "need the cash to pay their bills" deserve special treatment!]

But at least the Trading Standards woman confirmed that so far, they haven't found anything 'misleading' or 'wrong' as they are entitled to offer any price they choose (obviously). But Jenny Bond's persistence in asking her if they can stop this 'misleading' practice was met by a polite "Yes, but only if it is misleading".

Never mind. The cleaning girl [who incidentally thinks special treatment should go to those who work and 'want' to pay their overdraft but don't] is off to the services of a 'Debt Management Company'.

Prizes awarded for who can guess how long before Rip Off Britain concentrates on... er... Debt Management Companies.... Answers on a postcard.....

Gin & Tonics all round...

You tend to find these programmes are full of misinformation and sensationalism.

You just have to look at the mess Panorama made with their recent pensions programme and all the errors and incorrect assumptions that contained to realise that if a "high profile" journalistic programme can get it wrong and sensationalise then these early evening dumbed down consumer programmes catering for the stupid are going to be even worse.

However, I would like to thank the OP for pointing this out as looking up the programme allowed me to see that the second series of Michael Portillo's excellent Great British Railway Journeys was on BBC2 and I have missed the first 3 episodes. I can now record the rest and catch up on Iplayer.
Thanks for that post, I thought the GBR progs were repeats, so I would have missed them, but WHY are they on continuous days?. And why on my V-Box is catch up not in HD?
