I'm going to have a really wild guess - it's a shot in the dark really but.... Call the DVLA?

You'll probably be told to send it back with the correction marked. If you do, be sure to send it recorded delivery or else they'll lose it and charge you 20 quid (or whatever the going rate is) for a new one, which will still have the wrong name on it because they can't change it over the phone.

Exactly, I suspect that the DVLA put exactly what was on the application.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

"spelt" is valid, it's pronounced differently from "spelled" which is more common in American English and the posher variants of British English.

this had happened to me aswell....went to the post office to get the relevant form...sent it away. after about 2 weeks, received my licence only to find another (different) spelling mistake. did the same again, went to PO etc. and eventually got my licence with correct spelling!

I used to enter the licence application details in to the computer at the DVLA and mistakes do get made, we used to get batches of about 30 licences to process at a time, I have no doubt that out of every 30 I did, there must have been one mistake in the batch somewhere, it sometimes got picked up by your supervisor who would do random checks if I remember correctly (13 years ago now).
PPl scan read as they enter the info and see what they want when they enter the details sometimes. Scruffy or very girly writing with loads of swirls and curls on the application form didnt help either!
Just send the licence back, both parts with a covering letter explaining why, they can check your original application on microfilm if need be.

Out of curiosity, what ID did you use, is this spelt correctly?
