Hope you can help. As is probably obvious, when you buy mobile broadband in the UK it is priced by the Gb. I am currently on holiday in Australia and the same is the case. By the way Telstra Mobile broadband is very good, but expensive.
However last year I was working in France and it is priced by the minute. Rather like an Internet caf!, if you get interrupted or drink a cup of coffee it costs you money as the minutes tick on !
This year I have an opportunity to work in either Spain or Italy and although this broadband question is not going to influence my decision, I would welcome your answers on what the pricing systems are in those countries and perhaps why ?

It'll be down to the local market and what the local suppliers have to offer to be competitive. For instance, in the UK you can also use all-you-can-eat T-Mo broadband for a daily fee, so a hybrid of per-minute and per-GB. But that could change at any moment. I think you should just see what the deals are when you get there!0

Spain .... Mobile Broadband is very expensive, Vodafone sell it by the amount, not by the time it is used.
Movistar is another operator in Spain.
The cheapest seems to be Yoigo.

I can be more specific now, has anyone info on Sardinia ?0

Found this new dongle, called abroadband, amazingly cheap prices, 50p/mb and covers worlwide countries, ideal for the EU.

Just started this month but looks impressive, 80% cheaper than uk roaming prices. Just avoid MB eaters like youtube and mp3 sites and your onto a winner I think.0 -
There are so few such specialised roaming services existing that I was tempted to look at this site promotionally spammed above.
At about 50p per MB it is still prohibitively expensive for any serious use.
Could tot up to £20 for a day's usage. If Windows or Adobe decide they'd like to update themselves while you are plugged in, could cost £50-£100!
Comparing with using roaming data from a UK mobile operator is laughable as we all know they are a rip-off for roaming anyway.
Of real interest then is, is this co for real? Domain is reg'd by what seems to be a legit Austrian telecoms company.
Once the price gets down to somewhat real levels per MB, this could be useful.0
