2nd student bank account

Hi people,

I'm currently with HBOS but very close to my overdraft limit and struggling to find a job.

Went into the branch to try and extend my overdraft but due to no income coming in since the summer, the guy at the bank didn't seem too optimistic.

He tried selling me a credit card (which Im not gonna take) but I asked him if I could go to another bank and open a diff student account there and take advantage of an interest free overdraft. He said I could if I wanted, but you are only allowed 1 student account that is interest free - if I went across to HSBC for example, I would have to pay an interest rate on any of my borrowing.

Anyone know if this is the case? Hope not so can get back to the :beer: !

I am afraid that it is, although I do know a few people who have two student accounts. However banks do check, and if on the off chance they catch you you will most likely loose both interest free overdrafts :eek:

Your best bet would be to take out a hardship loan, your uni should provide information on how to apply. Depending on your circumstances they may be able to provide you with a grant. A friend of mine was hit for a huge repayment on a laptop, the uni helped pay for some of it.
