    If the solicitors are waiting for enquiries to be received from the other side, how do you expect them to know with any certainty when the
    other side will respond? Countrywide are notorious for their poor service and delays. If your solicitors were stupid enough to give you a date then you'd be on here complaining as soon as it was missed - probably though it remained outside their control.

    It sounds as though the enquiries are needed before the paperwork can be progressed. If the solicitor feels the enquiries are necessary in order to do their job and, more importantly, protect your interests and your lender's interests, then they are necessary.

    I can appreciate how frustrating it must be, but sometimes the answer to the question "how long will it take?" can only be "how long is a piece of string?". Others' experiences are not necessarily a guide as your circumstances are unique, as was theirs. And I suspect your mortgage broker has no more information than you and is simply guessing too.
