how much does your toddler eat??

I was lying in bed last night unable to sleep and for some reason my mind wandered to my DS (4) diet in particular just how much he eats :rotfl:. He has always had a good appetite (sp) and is in no way overweight but he eats an awful lot
. I am not concerned about his eating and I know he's probably just burning it off but it did make me wonder how much other people's children eat.
Yesterday for example he had a bowl of cerea, an apple and a drink of juice for breakfast, followed a couple of hours later ( at a friends house) of some crisps  a small packet of har1b0 and a bottle of juice. Then for lunch he had a sandwich and some raw carrot and asked for another sandwich. Mid afternoon he had a pear then for dinner he had 3 (yes 3) bowls of spag bol and a slice of HM garlic bread (I dont mean big portions but still.................) and a drink of apple juice then 3 cheesey biscuits for supper. The snacks in the morning are not typical but a treat as he given then by a friend but the quantity of food IS typical.
As I said I know he isnt overweight and I am not concerned but was curious how it compared to other 4 year olds.

Wow, wish my dd ate half as much. If he isnt overweight and is burning it off and what he eats is healthy (treats arent bad btw) then I dont see a problem, he obviously just likes his food!Sealed Pot Challenge Member 151

Thanks for your reply - I really am not bothered about his diet/weight. I was interested in how much other kids of a similar age ate. I cant seem to feed him enough :rotfl:its costing me a fortune. I am glad he isnt a fussy eater though as I am not sure how I'd cope with that and I am very grateful he loves his fruit but it isnt have costing me a fortune :rotfl:Emma

Personally i wouldnt worry about your sons appetite.
You are feeding him good foods , its not as if your stuffing him with junk food !
As you say , hes not over weight at all so i cant see a problem .
My sister has a 3 year old and she cant get him to eat at all , he picks at things but never seems to eat a good meal .
Personally if it were my son with the good appetite that yours has i would be pleased.
I dont think you need to be worrying. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
My little brother was 3 in December and he eats a lot! For breakfast he usually has 2 weetabix/porridge followed by 1/2 slices of toast. At tea time he generally eats his entire portion, usually has seconds and then dessert. I think they are so boisterous at that age that they burn off the extra calories.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

I'm not, honestly, I was just interested in how much other children of a similar age eat. If I was worried I would have asked the advice of the doctor

DD1 is 4, DD2 is 2. DD1 has a cold and is recovering from a tummy upset, so far she has had 2 cups of apple juice, a bite of toast, and 3 grapes. DD2 has had toast, scrambled eggs and what seems like her own body weight in red grapes.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

DS turned 4 recently. Typically on a weekday he could have:
Breakfast (one of the following) -child's size bowl of cheerios/readybrek (with some dried fruit)/oatibix bites/ slice of toast
Snack -(one or two of ) some grapes/blueberries/small biscuit/square of plain chocolate/apple/pear/etc
Lunch -(one of ) Philadelphia sandwich (one slice of bread)/tomato soup (1/3 - 1/2 can) with slice of bread)/ 1/3 can reduced salt and sugar beans with slice of bread and some cheese. Piece of fresh fruit. Some fruit juice diluted 50/50 with water
Snack - Oatcakes/biscuit/ peppers
Teatime - Childs plate of chilli/ some chicken with potatoes and veg/ pasta. Pudding - yogurt, often as much as a normal adult pot sized - full calorie/fat
He would also have up to 200mls of semi skimmed milk.
I do think kids of this age seem to have peaks and troughs of eating though? The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -

I think your right about the peaks/troughs. He deff eats more during a growth spurt and his sleep patterns change aswel. Thanks for taking the time to share your 'typical' day

Food quantities sound healthy to me. It's not boredom eating, so he just must be a growing hungry healthy lad

DD used to eat well when she was little too and she is now 16 and a healthy 10 stone, clothes size 10, 5 foot 8 and a BMI of 21. She still has a large glass of milk and 2 cookies before bed:D
