Holidays to the Maldives

Hi folks! I wonder if anyone could give some advise about booking holidays to the Maldives. Myself and partner are thinking of spending a week at the end of September this year, but we're wondering whether to take the plunge and book now or wait until a couple of months before Sept and keeping fingers crossed we get some great last minute offers?
We're looking at staying in accomodation such as the Banyan Tree, Baros Island or Mihiri resort etc, and flying with scheduled carriers. Quite a few friends and travel operators (not surprisingly!) have said we need to book now and secure the flights/resorts we want, otherwise we risk ending up going cheap charter or paying exorbitant flight prices if we leave it until the last minute. So what are folks experiences out there? Would you guys recommend booking now or waiting for those elusive "bargains" later on in the year?
Many thanks.

If you specifically want one of those three then I would advise booking as soon as possible, whilst there is a good chance you may get a 'late deal' due to the fact that the higher end resorts are suffering from low occupancy, there is no guarantee. You need to weigh up how disappointed you would be if you could not get a room in these resorts.
Of the three, I would say Mirihi is the one to book in advance as it's so popular. I certainly wouldn't look to book any of them much later than maybe June? I think Mirihi may have a free board upgrade for this summer but can't remember what the end date of the offer was.
Try Hayes & Jarvis or Lavish Holidays for Mirihi

The Maldives tends not to see a lot of bargains except for last minute seats on charter flights which is not what you want. Weather in September can be poor at times, it is the end of the monsoon season, you may get little or no rain but equally you might be disappointed. Make sure you are happy before booking0

It is an ok price but certainly not a bargain.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I would book a.s.a.p, I spoke to Virgin holidays yesterday and its getting booked up for 2012 already.
Book All Inclusive if you can as well, drinks and meals are v v expensive in the Maldives as you cant exactly pop to the shops for a bap for lunch! The Banyan Tree is one of the most expensive resorts within the islands so if you really want to go there, then dont wait.
We went to Velidhu on 2007 (about 3* rating) and it was beautiful.KimmyCustard :j0 -

I hope you booked this. That's either an amazing bargain or incredible mis price, I sell tailor made holidays all day and never would have expected that..
What properties were there and when?
In response to the first question, book now, you'll have something to look forward to and its likely to be cheaper than it would be at the time.0
